What I Ordered

Mojito Cocktail

Rated 4 out of 5

$8

The mojito was very refreshing with plenty of citrus and mint. It was lightly sweet.

Tempura Shrimp Avocado Roll

Rated 4.5 out of 5

$14

The tempura shrimp avocado roll consisted of tempura shrimp and avocado wrapped in rice and drizzled in a bang bang sauce. It was delicious! I thought it was rolled well with good texture. The sushi was fresh with a nice balance of savory, salty, and spicy.

French Onion Soup

Rated 5 out of 5

$10

The French onion soup was a large bowl of onion soup with a thick layer of cheese on top. The onion soup was rich with flavor, very savory, and very comforting.

Seared Scallop Risotto

Rated 4 out of 5

$40

The seared scallops risotto was a very comforting dish. It was a cheesy rice risotto with peppers, tomatoes, and spinach. The scallops were large and nicely cooked. The overall feel of the dish was similar to a casserole so it felt very cozy and home made to eat.

Fried Flounder Sandwich

Rated 3 out of 5

$22

The fried flounder sandwich included a massive fried flounder fillet on a relatively small bun. Also, the fish was topped with butter lettuce and tomato. This meal was served with a large side of fries. The fish fillet was delicious, but the sandwich toppings were underwhelming. Moreover, the fish was better on its own. Additionally, the fries were plain but nicely cooked.

Overall Food

Rated 4 out of 5

The menu at The Porch has a heavy focus on seafood dishes including fine dining seafood dishes, sushi, dips, and sandwiches. They do have a few non-seafood options such as steak and burgers. Also, they have a full bar with wine and champaign options. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and thought everything was quite tasty. The sushi and the French onion soup were my favorite dishes. I visited during happy hour, so the sushi rolls, sandwiches, and cocktails were at a discounted price.

Service

Rated 4.5 out of 5

The service was very good. I dined at The Porch on Valentine’s Day. So, it was EXTREMELY busy and they were struggling some. But despite the crowd they were extremely professional and efficient. Additionally, the staff were friendly and happy to give recommendations. During my visit tables in the main dining room were reservation only, but the bar was first come first serve.

Overall Atmosphere

Rated 5 out of 5

The Porch at Long Creek is very simple, clean, and modern. They have large bar seating areas (looked like 4 bars) with many high-top tables, as well as normal tables by the windows in the main dining room. There is a small amount of beach themed décor but the main focus is on the beautiful view. There are wall to wall windows around the back half of the restaurant that look out on the water. All the outdoor seating looks at the water as well. Even though it is a fine dining restaurant the dining experience is relatively casual and comfortable. Additionally, I saw an ad that they have live music on the weekends.

The Porch on Long Creek in Virginia Beach, Virginia is in a lovely location. They have plenty of free parking available. The restaurant is nestled between some little shops on a waterfront dock area with many boats. There are very nice homes across the water from the restaurant. There are not any close hotels or restaurants, but it looked like there was a wedding venue next door.

Value for money

Rated 3.5 out of 5

The Porch on Long Creek is quite pricy to dine at. However, I think it is a pretty good value because the food is phenomenal and it has a spectacular view you can’t find frequently. During my visit I tried to make the most of the happy hour specials. I would strongly recommend going during happy hour. The sushi was my favorite item and is discounted at happy hour, as well as drinks. You can also get a flatbread or burger for $12 if you are on a budget. All in all, I think the Porch is worth trying but I would recommend making the most of there specials to make it more affordable.
